Thanks for stopping by my website. If you’re here, you’re curious about me, and I’d like to share my story.
I’m a military spouse [MilSpouse], and I had my fill of starting over in the job market every 2 years. I decided to start my own business. I want to meet, network, and give back to other people, especially MilSpouses, who are in similar situations. I hope my story will help inspire you to discover a better alternative just like I did! Before I get into all of that, let me tell you a little bit more about me.
I’m an ‘Army brat’.
You know how that story goes – I was born in Georgia, spent my childhood here, here, and here (pointing to states and countries as I spin a globe). To shorten that story, when people ask me where I’m from, I just say that I’m from the Army.
I lost count of how many schools I attended, although I think it was about 10. I went to a military college for 2 years, and have a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. I spent time in the Army – as a Reservist - and then I married an Army officer. We have two totally fabulous ‘Army brats’! I’ve held jobs in various fields – banking, medical, fast food, transportation and logistics, and lastly administrative.
As a MilSpouse, I’m a married single parent. Because of the nature of my husband’s job, we are often stationed nowhere NEAR a military post (read no support system)! If he’s not deployed, he travels extensively.
My life cycle was too vicious – move, look for a job, find daycare, work, get orders, resign, and move again! I got tired of being in Corporate America. They look at my resume and say ‘Boy! You sure have moved a lot!’
OR…
I get the job, and then tell my employer that I need to be off to care for my family, and they give me ‘the look’. You know… the one that says ‘again’? The potential for promotion dwindled with every move, simply because my employer knew I would only be there a short time. I won’t even start on finding good, affordable childcare!
My days were LOO..OONG – often starting at 4am and ending at 9pm. Even on the weekends, I had to get up extra early to do the housework. Those days were starting to take their toll! How was I going to be able to live, earn money, and take
care of my family without killing myself in the process??
I thought to myself ‘I’d LOVE to own my own business one day’. While that was a neat thought, how was I going to own a business when the only things permanent about my life were my cell phone number and my email address??
It took me a little while, but then I started learning about home-based businesses, and boy did that change my life! I had to do a little research, but I was able to find a business that suited my needs!
I could work from home – during the day, evenings, or weekends! I could schedule my family’s life around my work life! I could go on field trips (no more hearing about ‘Joey’s mom’ going on ALL the trips). There was no longer a need to worry about childcare, except for the occasional babysitter – which my children loved! AND… I could move the business WHENEVER I needed to! SAWEEET!
After starting a home-based business, I still kept searching for other ways to make money on the move, and turned to internet.
I have learned through some SERIOUS baptism by fire how to be a master marketer, and now I’m teaching others. The best part about my business is that as long as I have the internet, I will earn a living! It doesn’t matter if I’ve had 25 addresses!
MilSpouse Marketing was created as a platform to teach others, especially MilSpouses, how to use the internet to generate an income even while on the move!
Keep Marching Forward,
LuSundra
